The Goal:

The goal of the 3rd Annual HANA Convention is to mobilize Haitians nurses, Haitian American Nurses and other nurses as Change Agents to analyze and integrate the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report on the Future of NursingLeading Change, Advancing Health. As a result of attending this convention, nurses will be transformed, engaged and empowered while addressing professional nursing practice, global health and nursing education in Haiti.

Objectives:

  • Identify strengths and weaknesses in nursing education and health care in Haiti.
  • Analyze current trends and paradigm shifts in nursing education and methods of healthcare delivery in international settings.
  • Explore the values and benefits of cultural diversity in promoting cultural competent care.
  • Reflect with other chapter members and partners to advance nursing practice and improve health care globally.
  • Discuss the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the role of nurses in the delivery of care.
  • Embrace the use of Technology in nursing in promoting the delivery of health care.
  • Review and analyze the pitfalls and effective use of social media in nursing practice.
  • Empower nurses to lead change effectively.

The Haitian American Nurses Association meets every third Saturday of each month to discuss what is going on within the association, our local communities here and abroad.

This year is also an exciting year for us as we embark 30 years of serving the community.  Join us April 10-11th for our 3rd Annual Leadership Convention (see attached flyer), and to end with our spectecular gala on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

Call for Abstracts

The Convention Steering Planning Committee invites you to submit an abstract for oral  presentation or poster presentation and/or attend the Haitian American Nurses Association 3rd Annual Convention, with the theme: HANA: Celebrating 30 Years of Service, Leadership and Excellence postmarked by February 28, 2014. The goal of the 3rd Annual convention is mobilize Haitians nurses, Haitian American Nurses and other nurses as Change Agents to analyze and integrate the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report on the Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.

Authors will be notified upon review from the Convention Steering Planning Committee.  Selected posters will be displayed during the exhibit session and presenters will be eligible for a discounted registration to the Convention, April 10-11, 2014 in Miami, Florida. ABSTRACT GUIDELINES

  • Abstracts must be typed in Times New Roman, single spaced in font size 12 not to exceed 400 words.
  • Abstract should include the author’s name credentials, mailing address, work phone, and e-mail address or any other contact information.
  • One copy of the abstract should be submitted via email using word documents as an attachment to Guernab@aol.com.  Guerna will send a return email to acknowledge receipt.
  • We are looking for innovative projects; therefore, abstracts should include the following headings: title, background, purpose/aim, methodology, evaluation/outcomes, results and implications for nursing practice.
